Who Adventure Races?
Ex-high school athletes, trail runners, cyclists
(particularly mountain bikers), kayakers, triatheletes
and weekend warriors. Generally, racers are:
-- Strong cyclists and endurance runners. Some racers
bring whitewater paddling and/or rock climbing skills;
-- Proficient with land navigation: reading landscapes
and topographic maps, citing landmarks and moving
through unmarked terrain, and demonstrating keen
awareness of location at all times;
-- Mentally strong, persistent and usually stubborn
athletes that can endure 24 hour or multi-day races,
while hydrating and fueling their bodies efficiently;
-- Team players that can negotiate and manage team
dynamics (or solo struggle) while handling unpredictable
and frustrating mid-race occurrences
-- Usually very patient -- races are not won or
lost on day one...
