Adventure Race.
The Southern
Traverse is internationally recognized as one of
the premier expedition-length adventure races. The
event is a non-stop, multi-day race that challenges
coed teams of four to various disciplines including,
orienteering, mountain running, climbing, kayaking,
rafting, and mountain biking across New Zealand's
South Island. Teams navigate an unmarked course
over mountainous terrain and along fast flowing
rivers and waterways. Competitive teams strike a
balance between sleep, nutrition, stamina, and patience
for up to six days, covering
between 400 and 450 km
