An Epic
An epic is an outdoor endurance
sporting challenge. While it generally inspires atheltes
to reach a high level of performance, it is not a competitive
"race." Instead, epics are creatively developed
by local endurance athletes in order to gain a greater
appreciation for their local terrain and unique topography.
Usually staged over a "long day" (12 to 24 hrs)
or an extended period of time (weeks, months), an epic
may include scaling multiple peaks, paddling challenging
rivers, cycling over mountain passes, and/or trekking
along mountain ridges. The exact definition of an epic
may stir some debate; however a, few would disagree that
epic challenges provide the potential for physical exhaustion
and the certainty of adventure.
Team Nomad is compiling a list of epics across North America,
both multi-sport or single discipline. We would like to
hear your creative ideas. Please check out our list of
"epics" and then send us your ideas. Please
send to sberk@teamnomad.com.
